Open Header and Footer PDF to add text in six page positions. Our footer reads Workshop notes | 1 / 4 on the first page and updates through the document.
Pick a header or footer position
Load your PDF and choose the bottom-center point in the position map. Header positions are at the top; footer positions are at the bottom. Each position can contain its own text.
Write the label and insert tokens
Enter Workshop notes | {page} / {pages}. The {page} token is the physical page number and {pages} is the document’s total. The counter token {n} uses your numbering settings.
The example keeps 12-point black sans serif text and a 0.5-inch margin. Use the preview to check alignment; add other positions only when they help the reader.
Set scope and save
Keep the full page range for this example. Choose Start and download. The first page should read Workshop notes | 1 / 4, and the last should read Workshop notes | 4 / 4.
If you use mirrored placement for facing pages, check an odd and an even page before printing.
Common questions
Can I add text in more than one position?
Yes. Select another position and enter its text. Clear an individual position when you no longer need it.
What is the difference between the counter and page token?
The page token follows the physical page number. The counter follows the configured starting value and counting choices, useful when numbering begins after a cover.
