Cookies and similar storage
Cookies are small values stored by your browser and sent with relevant website requests. Local storage, session storage and IndexedDB also keep data on your device, but work differently from cookies. We describe them together here so you can understand the full picture.
i2PDF does not require a login. A technical session cookie is not a registered account, and clearing it does not delete downloaded files from your device.
Storage used by the tools
These are the first-party storage mechanisms in the current tools. A feature creates or uses the relevant entry only when needed.
| Storage item | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Processing session | A random technical session identifier protects server processing requests and links them to a security token. It is not an advertising identifier. | Session cookie. Browser session restoration may retain it. Server session data is eligible for cleanup after 12 hours of inactivity; cleanup timing can vary. |
| Appearance preference | Remembers the appearance setting you choose: light, dark or system. | Until you change the choice or clear this site’s browser data. |
| Recently used tools | Remembers up to three tools chosen from a PDF result so you can find them quickly. Stores tool identifiers and dates on this device, not filenames or document content. | Choices older than 30 days are no longer shown; saved entries are replaced when you choose another tool or removed when you clear site data. |
| File transfer tab | Identifies the current tab during a transfer to a matching conversion or OCR tool. | For the tab session; browser restoration can affect its lifetime. |
| Temporary file transfer | Temporarily holds a selected file for a same-browser tool handoff. This transfer does not itself upload the file. | Removed when consumed. A transfer expires after five minutes; an abandoned record may remain until the next storage cleanup or until you clear site data. |
Google advertising technologies
We plan to use Google AdSense to help fund the service. When ads are enabled, Google and participating advertising vendors may store or access cookies and similar identifiers to deliver ads, measure performance, limit repetition and detect fraud. With the necessary permission, ads may be personalized using visits to this and other websites.
Advertising cookies are separate from the storage used by our tools. Google and its advertising partners use these cookies, whose lifetimes vary by purpose and provider.
For visitors in European regions where consent is required, advertising consent is handled through Google’s consent management platform (CMP). Non-personalized ads can still use cookies and measurement. Merely browsing the site or accepting the Terms of Use is not consent to non-essential advertising cookies.
For details about Google’s handling of data, see How Google uses information from partner sites, Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s cookie information.
Manage your choices
If you block necessary session cookies or clear data during a task, a server request or file handoff may fail. Reload the tool and choose the file again. Deleting a cookie does not undo data already lawfully processed by an advertising provider.
- Manage Google personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. This changes personalization preferences; it does not mean that all advertising or all cookies will disappear.
- Use your browser settings to view, block or delete cookies and clear site data, including local storage and IndexedDB. Changes are usually specific to that browser and device.
- Change the light/dark/system preference with the appearance control in the site header. Clearing site data also removes the stored preference.
- Contact admin@sciweavers.org for questions or an applicable privacy-rights request. Browser privacy signals and ad-blocking behavior vary; do not assume that blocking cookies removes every form of information processing.
