Turn bookmarked chapters into separate PDF files. Choose a bookmark level: 1 is the top level. Each chapter ends before the next bookmark at that level. Introductory pages are kept separately. The document must contain bookmarks at the chosen level.

Inspect the document outline and choose level 1 or level 2.
Outline levels and usable bookmarks
The workspace lists bookmark titles beneath their level headings instead of rendering page thumbnails. Level 1 usually represents main chapters; level 2 represents their children. Choose the level that matches the parts you want. Visible text headings are not bookmarks unless the PDF contains actual outline destinations.
Split at chapter destinations
Each matching bookmark starts a chapter PDF.
Chapter boundaries and shared pages
A chapter begins on the bookmark destination page and ends before the next destination at that level. The last chapter extends to the end. Pages before the first matching bookmark are not included. Bookmarks sharing a page may produce overlapping chapter files because a page cannot be split by the bookmark’s vertical position.

The operation works with PDF pages rather than screenshots.
Content quality and interactive features
Text and vector artwork remain in PDF form where supported. The original file on your device is not overwritten. Interactive forms, annotations, links and document-level navigation can behave differently in a newly assembled document, so check the generated PDF before sharing it. Page rearrangement is not redaction of information inside retained pages.

Open one PDF up to 100 MB and 750 source pages. Protected files need an unlocked copy unless this tool explicitly offers password entry. Large or complex pages can require more memory or reach processing limits even when the file is within these limits.
Processing uses our servers. Source files, temporary files and results are deleted from our servers within 30 minutes after processing finishes. We do not share document contents with third parties or use them to train AI models.

Temporary server processingCan I split a PDF by its printed table of contents?
This tool reads actual PDF bookmarks, also called the document outline. A printed contents page alone is not enough. If there are no bookmarks, use Split PDF and select the chapter boundaries manually.
Can I split at chapters or subchapters?

What if the PDF has no usable bookmarks?
The tool needs usable PDF bookmarks pointing to pages; printed chapter headings alone are not bookmarks. If none are available at the selected level, use Split PDF or add chapter bookmarks in Edit PDF first. Chapters end before the next destination. Pages before the first matching bookmark are omitted, and bookmarks on the same page can produce overlapping parts.
